RAID stands for redundant array of independent disks. So, what is a RAID system? Quite simply it is a series of hard drives hooked together so as to quickly handle retrieval of large amounts of information. Obviously when one ties together ten 100 gigabyte drives there is then available a full terabyte of information. That is one function of RAID systems. The other is that when data is place on these separate drives it can be done so in an overlapping manner. This means that should one drive fail the information on it is still safely stored on another of the drives. This is known as redundancy. Not only does it protect data from being lost, it also allows data to be access from several points in the event of high demand or other system failure.

RAID systems are perfect for any large organization where information is accessed through a network. The only problem with RAID systems is that they can fail due to both mechanical and logic problems. When either of these situations arises RAID recovery is needed. There are but a handful of companies worldwide sufficiently skilled for RAID recovery. One such organization is Disk Doctors. With locations scattered around the globe they are the first and best choice for all RAID system problems and maintenance.
